So you said "yes" and now you're diving headfirst into the wonderful world of wedding planning. It's exciting, a little overwhelming, and full of beautiful moments - especially when it comes to finding the dress! At Seattle Bridal Rack, we're here to make the gown-shopping part a breeze. But first, let's talk timing.
Planning a wedding has a lot of moving parts, and your dress is one of the biggest! Knowing when to start looking can save you a lot of stress.
We generally recommend starting to look for your gown about 8-10 months before your wedding date. Why so early? This buffer allows you ample time to shop, make your final decision without rushing, and, most importantly, accommodate necessary alterations.

Short Timeline? No Problem!
Here’s the fantastic news about shopping with us: all of our gowns are sold off-the-rack. This means the dress you fall in love with comes home with you that day! So, if you’re on a shorter time frame - say, 6 months or even less - we’re the perfect bridal store for you! While we skip the months-long ordering process, you still want to factor in time for alterations as necessary.
Your Pre-Wedding Dress Fitting Checklist
Once you've secured your stunning off-the-rack gown, the next big step is ensuring it fits you perfectly. Here is a simplified timeline and checklist for the fitting process:
1-2 Months After Purchase: Find your trusted Seamstress/Tailor
Start researching local alteration specialists if you don't have one. Get quotes and book your first appointment.
8-12 Weeks Before Wedding: First Fitting (The Pinning)
Bring the exact shoes and undergarments (bra, shapewear, etc.) you plan to wear on the big day. The tailor will pin and mark all necessary adjustments.
4-6 Weeks Before Wedding: Second Fitting (The Check-In)
Try on the dress to check the major alterations (length, bodice fit). Further minor adjustments may be marked.
1-2 Weeks Before Wedding: Final Fitting (The Take Home)
This is the final check! Ensure everything is perfect, practice moving and sitting, and take your gown home, safely pressed and ready for the big day!

Must-Haves for Every Fitting:
The Exact Wedding Shoes: Hem lengths depend entirely on your heel height! Do not attend a fitting without them.
Your Wedding Day Undergarments: This includes your bra, corsets, shapewear, or slips. Different foundations change the way the dress hangs.
Accessories (Optional but Recommended): Bringing your veil, jewelry, or belt can help you see the complete vision, even if the tailor doesn't need them for the actual pinning.
A Trusted Friend or Family Member: Bring someone who will be helping you get dressed on the wedding day. They can learn how the bustling works!
We can't wait to help you find the dress that makes you feel like the most beautiful version of yourself. With our amazing selection of off-the-rack designer gowns, you can skip the wait time and focus on the fun parts of planning.
